Unstoppable Change
My family and I took a trip to New Zealand last month and had the privilege of visiting the glacier at Mt. Cook. It's a massive expanse of ice that has been in a constant state of change for millennia. The lake that we viewed the glacier from didn't exist the year I was born. New icebergs break off daily. As they melt the ice flips over revealing a shocking, beautiful blue that exists because of the way ice absorbs light.
Watching the ancient ice recreate itself made me reflect on my own relationship with age. I’ve said for a long time that I wanted to get to 35, preserve looking 35 until I'm 70, and then look like I'm 70 until I'm dead. I turned 36 this year and am realizing how impossible that is, and how may eyes must have been rolling behind my back. If we were chatting in person, I'd be chuckling. The hubris in that statement…geez.
I've been protecting and preserving my face for just over a decade, and talk about the myriad of anti-aging modalities I use on this blog. The past year there have been noticeable changes in my body. My metabolism is different. I notice wrinkles when I wake up that will stick around past morning coffee. My cellulite was increasing. I realized that I need to start paying attention to what's going on below my jawline. I've added in four products to my routine that have started to make a difference in just one month, and want to share with you.
Dry Brushing…I've tried this before but haven't enjoyed it as much as I have with The Skinny Confidential's Butter Brush. It's a fantastic brush that has a long handle and lets you brush hard to reach areas. The bristles are also the perfect balance between soft and coarse. It's an energizing way to start the day and provides excellent exfoliation.
Oil - Body Gua Sha - Oil…I apply L'Occtaine shower oil and then use Skinny Confidential's Le Spoon for an all over body gua sha massage. When I get out of the shower I apply Agent Nateur Body Firming Oil. It's been one month and I've noticed a huge difference in my cellulite. The oils also smell amazing. This whole thing takes less than 5 minutes but feels like a spa. I’m so grateful for Lauren Bosstick’s story on this routine. She hit the nail on the head with this one.
Nectifirm Advanced…Revision isn't a skincare line that I go to very often, but their neck cream is the best. I've known many women with a lot of skin laxity who swear by it. I'm doing this as a preventative measure, but have noticed that since beginning application, my 'sleep lines' don't stick around past my morning coffee.
Accepting aging is hard. We’re surrounded with altered and fake images of what is ‘normal’. Watching that glacier break apart, revealing a different type of beauty beneath, was the start of a new mindset for me. Preservation and protection, lets
move forward with that. Freezing time, well, apparently not even glaciers can do that.
